WELCOME TO TANDA TULA

An unhurried, soulful African safari

Exquisitely curated by wonderful people in a wilderness where hectares vastly outnumber humans.

This has been our home in the Greater Kruger since 1976. What began as a dream became a life rooted in nature, family, and the joy of sharing it all. We are proudly African, co-owned and led by the Scott, Jackson, Hartog and Mathebula families. Here, every detail has been thoughtfully curated by hand and heart. In this sacred space in the Timbavati, we offer something deeply personal: a soulful, unhurried safari shaped by purpose, connection, and care.

We’re so glad you’ve found your way here. Our home is yours…

Your unhurried safari & soulful wilderness immersion

Bordering the mammoth Kruger National Park, the Timbavati is wild, open, and alive.

Here you have the freedom of space to roam, to breathe, and to be still. There’s no distraction and no rush.

Oh, the quiet privilege of sitting longer, feeling deeper, and being fully present. It may be the furthest you’ve ever been from civilisation — and the closest you’ve ever felt to life.

A group of guides stands together in tall golden grass, looking down and pointing as they walk through the field. The scene is outdoors at tandatula with warm evening light.
A safari guide sits on the front of a Tanda Tula game drive vehicle in the bush. The vehicle is parked in grassland with trees in the background.

Our guides and trackers are storytellers of the wild — deeply intuitive, endlessly curious, and profoundly skilled.

Among them are two of South Africa’s rare Master Trackers. With sharp eyes, gentle hearts, and decades of experience, they read the land like their home language.

Every game drive offers great gifts:
presence, perspective, and the highest state of being – awe.

A young elephant stands in tall green grass, with a few orange butterflies near its face and leg. The animal is facing forward in a natural bush setting.
Several zebras graze among dense green bushveld as a large flock of birds fills the sky above them. The scene captures wildlife in an open, natural setting.
Two coyotes stand nose to nose in open grassland, with an adult on the left and a smaller pup on the right. The soft background and close interaction create an intimate wildlife moment.
A close view of rhinoceroses standing in tall green grass near water. The animals are partially lit by warm light, with the water and dark background behind them.
Two cheetahs rest on a large fallen tree trunk in open bushveld. One lies stretched out while the other sits alertly beside it, both surrounded by green vegetation.

This is a place of extraordinary sightings where the Big 5 are just the beginning.

You might follow a leopard through dry riverbeds, track elephants in golden light, or catch the flick of a cheetah’s tail through tall grass.

From the drama of predator encounters to the stillness of a lilac-breasted roller — every moment holds magic — if you know how to see it.

Your home on safari

This is a camp made for living — open, soulful spaces that invite you to settle in, slow down, and stay a while.
From the dining deck to the firepit, every shared space feels personal.

Each canvas-and-glass suite opens to the wild is thoughtfully styled with earth-toned textures, solar elegance, and deep, quiet comfort. Whether you’re in a family suite or a suite for two, the bush is never far.
There’s space here — to reconnect, to retreat, to simply be.

An elevated suite is tucked into dense green trees, with a small plunge pool on the deck. A person sits beside the pool, and the open front of the suite reveals the bed inside.

Our family

At Tanda Tula, our people are the soul behind the safari. Three generations of passionate, humble, joyful hosts — each one bringing something heartfelt, authentic, and deeply African. They genuinely love what they do, and they love our guests. You’ll feel it in every smile, every welcome, every detail: that sense of being seen, understood, and truly cared for. Here, you belong.

Just the absolute best

Repeated sightings of all of the Big 5 - and much more. Our guide (Tristan) and tracker (Glenn, who tracked down a pride of lions on foot and then guided our vehicle to a kill) are the best that there could possibly be. Their knowledge, insight, and easy manner are second to none.
